The next level in vehicle dynamics simulation

Vehicle dynamics research calls for more than just accurate and precise real-time multi-body dynamics modeling.  In order to do meaningful research, vehicle simulation solutions also need to translate those numbers into an authentic, coordinated, multi-sensory driving experience for test drivers and track what that experience means to the driver.

“The realism you feel from driving in a simulator is not only from the visual systems but also from the feedback that you get from the steering wheel. The vehicle dynamics are modeled very accurately. It really does feel like it is state-of-the-art technology.”

—Jason Rogers, University of Florida, Computer Applications Coordinator

Vehicle Dynamics Simulation with SimVehicle

Realtime Technologies hardware/software vehicle dynamics modeling solutions can be built in any configuration required to suit your research and budget.  For cost-conscious researchers, Realtime Technologies offers their standard RDS-500 vehicle simulator built using off-the-shelf components, and suitable for a range of research projects. Realtime Technologies can also use actual vehicle cabs supplied by OEMS, or custom mock-up vehicles based on current or future production vehicles or concepts, with complete authentic instrumentation and multiple degree-of-freedom motion platforms.

Every Realtime Technologies vehicle dynamics modeling and simulation solution comes with the same robust, high-fidelity real-time simulation and modeling system. Vehicle dynamics can be directly modeled in the included SimVehicle software. This graphical software system supports a wide range of vehicle configurations, including:

  • four, six, or eight-wheeled vehicles
  • tracked vehicles
  • any style of tire or tread
  • unencumbered or pulling two- or four-axle trailers
  • any combination of vehicle dynamics, malfunctions, and road surfaces

Powertrain Modeling

Realtime Technologies’ advanced powertrain modeling calculates the torques at each wheel, taking into account both modeled inputs (engine, transmission, etc.) and user inputs (brake pedal, gear selector, accelerator pedal, steering angles, etc.), and even equipment malfunctions.  SimVehicle easily integrates with scenarios, terrain, and operating conditions (day, night, poor visibility, inclement weather, variable traffic patterns) created in the included SimVista scenario-design software.

Depending on your research needs and simulation requirements, SimCreator and SimCreator DX can be supplemented with:

  • SimObserver a video capture system that can include driver eye tracking
  • SimDriver an autonomous interaction simulation software

SimCreator’s modular, scalable software smoothly integrate with other software packages and can be scaled and modified over time as your research expands or changes direction.  Up to 10 driving research simulators can be simultaneously networked using SimConnect, creating a rich, naturalistic environment in which many human drivers are interacting with the same scenario.
