In accordance with International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) guidelines, MILO’s Healthcare Security and Safety scenarios have been instrumental in meeting the training needs of healthcare security officers charged with protecting citizens in medical settings, as well as situational awareness and safety for all medical personnel. Simulation-based interactive training has several advantages over typical classroom lecture-style training or simply watching a video. With judgment training for hospital security and personnel responsible for healthcare and an extensive library of interactive scenarios, MILO can provide training for healthcare security officers as well as nurses, technicians, administration, reception, doctors, and other clinicians working with populations and individuals in medical crises, domestic circumstances and escalated behaviors. Ranging from simple safety drills to advanced judgment and decision-making applications, training for safety and various circumstances in simulation provides the foundation for empathetic and successful de-escalation for the newest staff member up to the most experienced personnel, resulting in increased patient [and staff] safety and an overall decrease in violence and anxiety. Healthcare Security video scenarios offer full immersion with multiple branching scenarios and outcomes, empowering the learner to practice making important choices, providing resources, and communicating. Training blocks are followed up with debriefing, feedback, and additional de-escalation tools for the learner to consider using as they move forward. Optional MILO Course Designer software enables instructors to create new, fully interactive videos and scenarios, allowing them to also imbed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion components, institutional policies, and procedures paired with progressive content to practice in their individual communities.
